Chuffy and Baggy had driven past us up Blagdon Hill and by the time we reached Luppitt Common they had set up their second tea stop, bless them!
Soon after leaving there the sun came out! Both Stuart and I decided to keep our wet but warm gear on. Probably a good decision, but influenced by the fact that we were getting too tired to be bothered to take it off!
We made a brief stop in Ottery St Mary to clean some grit off my front brake blocks, take a photo of the Church, and phone our relatives to explain why we had not yet got to Exmouth.
The last 15 miles to Exmouth seemed hard work. Neither of us felt tired in the way you would expect having been up all night, but there was no doubt the conditions had taken their toll physically. The climb from Otterton, through Yettington to Lympstone Common seemed worse than either Burrington Coombe or Blagdon Hill, even though it’s only a little over half the height.
The downhill run from there to Exmouth in bright sunshine was a real highlight!
We were thrilled to have made it and be greeted by cheering and waving from the welcoming party at the sea front cafe.
It was great to do this run with Stuart and the mutual support undoubtedly helped us both.
The bacon and egg butty and coffee which followed were so good!
